Cottage in Dumfries and Galloway, Schottland
HOLIDAY_HOME: 22036 / SQQY
Situated on the Scottish Borders, not far from Gretna, lies the mansion of Springkell with landscaped gardens. Built for the Maxwell family, proprietors of the Barony of Kirkconnel and Springkell since 1610, the original Georgian centre of the house was erected in 1730 and the house and stables were extended in 1830. These two holiday cottages (SQQY and SRRA), situated in the grounds of Springkell Estate, offer a peaceful retreat. Ideally located to explore Dumfries and Galloway and Scotland’s Border country, steeped in history, with castles, abbeys, stately mansions and dramatic ruins. Picturesque towns and villages are set in a landscape of rolling hills, moorland and meandering rivers. Ramble the moors and hills, discover the coastline, fish the rivers and lochans, ride the bridleways, play the fairways or take a mountain bike challenge. Visit museums, workshops and galleries. The cities of Edinburgh and Carlisle and cosmopolitan Glasgow are easily reached within an hour. Shops and pubs 1 to 4 miles.
